Abused Women’s Aid in Crisis (“AWAIC,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (Tax ID 92-0061049) located at 100 West 13th Avenue, Anchorage, AK 99501. We are committed to protecting the privacy of the people we serve, our donors, and visitors to awaic.org. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

A note on safety: If you are in crisis, your safety comes first. Our crisis line — (907) 272-0100 — is available 24/7. Calls to the crisis line are confidential and are not recorded. This website policy governs awaic.org only; it does not govern crisis-line services.

Information we collect

Information you give us directly:

Contact form: When you use the contact form on our site, we collect your name, email address, phone number, and the contents of your message so we can respond to your inquiry.

Donations: Online donations are processed securely through our payment partner, Qgiv. Donation information (name, contact details, and payment information) is collected and processed by Qgiv under Qgiv’s privacy policy. AWAIC does not store full credit card numbers on our servers.

Email correspondence: If you email us, we keep your email address so we can respond. AWAIC does not currently operate a newsletter or email marketing list.

Information collected automatically: Our site uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and Google Tag Manager (GTM) to understand how visitors use awaic.org and to keep the site working properly. This includes standard information such as pages visited, time spent on the site, device type, and browser type. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Our site uses cookies for basic functionality and analytics. You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings; doing so may affect how the site works.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.

How we use your information

We use the information we collect to: respond to inquiries and provide requested services; process donations and send donation receipts and acknowledgments; operate, maintain, and improve our website and programs; and comply with legal obligations and protect the safety of our clients, staff, and community.

How we share your information

We share personal information only as needed to carry out our mission. Service providers: trusted vendors who help us operate (for example, our donation processor Qgiv, our website hosting provider, and analytics tools). They may use the information only to provide services to us. Legal requirements: if required by law, court order, or to protect the safety of any person. We never share client or shelter-resident information collected through our crisis services except as required by law or with the individual’s consent.

Data retention

We retain personal information for as long as the law requires, including donation records kept for tax and audit purposes.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information, including secure (HTTPS) connections across our website. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children’s privacy

Our website is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through the website. AWAIC does not collect information from minors through awaic.org.

Your choices

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal information you have provided to us by contacting development@awaic.org.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be posted at awaic.org/privacy-policy/ with its effective date.
